JASPER

I whistled a delightful song as I walked through the trees to where Cassie had left her car. Sex with her was definitely a game-changer for me. I never expected to be with her like that. But since I had, I couldn’t get enough. But I had promised her I would grab her clothes and things from her car, and figured I would do so while she slept. Besides, she needed all the rest she could get.

Without much effort, I found her car and pulled out her bags. I was shocked she didn’t pack more than she had. Just a suitcase, a duffle bag, and a smaller bag which I assumed had her hygiene and toiletries. I spotted a pillow and throw blanket in the back seat and grabbed those as well. She might want something familiar. It probably would help her heal.

With my arms loaded up, I headed back. Then Cassie screamed. The sound was so full of terror my heart skipped a beat. I dropped her things in the woods and ran the rest of the way to the cabin. When I rushed through the door, I heard the fight. It didn’t take long for me to figure out where the fight broke out.

Anger boiled my blood as I ran to the room. I had no idea what started the fight, but I had a damn good idea of who.

And it was none other than Kai.

Go figure the first moment I had my back turned he would go and do something stupid. He knew how I felt about her, and yet he still wouldn’t let go of his ridiculous suspicions he had around her. He was losing his mind, and I had enough of his attitude.

My first thought was to make sure Cassie was okay. It took everything in me not to shift right then and with the looks of her terrified, shaking form in the farthest corner of my room. Once she realized who I was, I scooped her up and took her away from the fight.

Kai was going to regret this.

I shifted into my Kodiak seconds before I charged back through my bedroom door. I leaped onto Kai’s back and clamped down on the nape of his neck, biting hard to force him to submit. He struggled against me. I grunted as my body was slammed into a wall in his efforts to shake me from him. Chase ducked out of the way when Kai tried to shake me from him. He had another thing coming if he honestly thought it would take so little.

After several close calls, Chase, thankfully, sat on his haunches safely out of the way. A few more minutes of Kai’s struggling, and he finally seemed to take the hint and gave up.

Once he relaxed under me, I let him go, removed myself from him, and sat back as well. Kai continued to lay on the floor for several moments before he shifted back into his human form. Chase and I did the same.
